Dangerous Diets That You Should Avoid

Yoga can help improve your health, but only so much. Your diet has a significant effect on your health. There are many fad diets that can be tempting because of their promised results, but many of these diets could damage your health. Here are the diets that you should be avoiding at all costs.

1. Detoxes and Juice Diets

Detoxes have become popular with many people online and who do yoga. These diets can be grouped with fasting diets, but they need their own spot. A great smoothie or juice for breakfast is fine, but when you are only taking in juice or smoothies, then it becomes an issue. Most times, you will not be able to get the calories and nutrients that you need daily. This deficiency can cause you to lose muscle mess, and it will help you lose water, which is why you lose some weight. However, if you return to your old diet after the detox, you will put weight back on rapidly.

2. Fasting Diet

Most times, fewer calories mean more weight loss. However, you should not be starving yourself to lose weight. Starving yourself deprives the body of nutrients, which can cause a huge amount of stress. Depending on how long you are on a fasting diet, you could lose muscle mass, making it harder to burn calories after you stop the diet. These diets can also lead to dizziness, dehydration, and many other side effects.

If you are not convinced that you should avoid fasting diets, then it is likely you will gain more weight than you lose. The reason for this is that your body will want more food than it uses, which means that you are going to be hungry more often and will take in more calories.

3. Grapefruit/Cabbage Diet

Eating a huge amount of just grapefruit or cabbage is not going to kill you, but only eating one food will lead to huge nutrient deficiencies. This is not helpful, especially when you are attempting long-term weight loss.

These diets are old fad diets that have stuck around for years. They will help you lose weight when you first start out, because of the lower calories that you are taking in. However, you should be eating more than just cabbage soup or grapefruit. If you want to try these diets, you should make sure that you are mixing in some carbohydrates and lean protein.

4. Cotton Ball Diet

This diet has been around for hundreds years and has you eat a handful of cotton balls that are soaked in fruit juice. This will fill you up, but it could kill you. Most ‘cotton’ balls in drugstores are not made from cotton, but bleached polyester fibers. There are thousands of chemicals that could be in your ‘cotton’ balls, so do not eat them.

A good general rule is that you should be eating at least 2,000 calories per day, and you should be eating from all the food groups in the right amount. Cutting out too much from your diet at the same time can cause cravings. The best diet for you will depend on your lifestyle and your goals.
